Easter is normally buzzing with fun, family events over the long weekend, but sadly this is no ordinary Easter. All the joy and eggcitement we would normally outsource is now left for us to create.
Luckily, the online world is full of great ideas, and the Easter bunny knows where you live, so you can look like an Easter eggspert and deliver a little magic at home.
Here are some ways you can keep Easter alive in lockdown. Better hop to it!
Wear Your Sunday Best
Social distancing has probably left your wardrobe languishing, while you get around in your quarantine get-up. Here’s the perfect eggscuse to get out of your pyjamas, brush your hair and put on something sparkly for the day, and let the kids choose their own special outfit.
Create An Easter Hunt
Try an Easter hunt in the house or backyard - and it doesn't just have to be chocolate eggs! Try Easter-themed stickers, colouring books, stationery, accessories or cuddly bunnies. You could even start with a letter from the Easter Bunny, or leave some sneaky footprints (paper printables or flour) or pieces of fur (cotton wool) for some added drama. If you want to get adventurous with puzzles and riddles they have to solve to get their loot, here are some scavenger hunt clues you can print, or get the creative juices flowing and make your own!
There are also lots of 'virtual Easter egg hunts' popping up this year so you won't miss out on the magic. We love the sound of Sydney Olympic Park's virtual egg hunt where you can win Easter showbags!
Get Crafty
Grab the glitter! Seek out the cellophane! Get the fun stuff ready for some hands-on arts and crafts. There are loads of Easter activities and free printables online to keep little bunnies busy and eggscited. From elaborately decorated eggs to DIY bunny-ear baskets, here are some of our favourite Easter projects:
Peppa Pig Easter Hat
Sharpie Eggs
Dip-dyed Eggs
Easter Bunny Plate
Fingerprint Bunnies and Chicks
Easter Suncatcher
Bunny Basket
Decorate The House
Better still, you can get crafty and decorate the house and at the same time! Lift your spirits with lots of colour and get the kids involved with some DIY decor. Get out any party supplies like streamers to hang around the house and draw bunny faces and Easter egg designs on balloons. You might even try your hand at making an Easter bunny garland or easter wreath.
Send Easter Cards
Get out your scrapbooks and stickers, pencils and paints and make someone's day with an Easter card. Send them to your family, friends or neighbours and add a mini Easter egg to sweeten up your message.
Play Easter Games
Get the family together for an egg and spoon race! You can also find pin the tail on the bunny printables online, or make one yourself if you're feeling arty, and fun family games like Easter bingo or i-spy.
Get Cooking
Bake your own hot cross buns or cupcakes decorated with easter eggs. You can also try some bunny-shaped cookies or pancakes. Check out this awesome Easter Bunny Milkshake and these adorable Bunny Cupcakes.
Shop For Easter Showbags
All the showbags intended for the cancelled Royal Easter Show are now available online so stock up on some goodies and get them delivered to your door.
Eat Choc Cross Bun Gelato
Don't just feel good eating it, make someone's day by 'scooping it forward' too! Gelatissimo is encouraging Aussies to nominate someone who deserves a little bit of sweetness to receive a free tub of gelato delivered to their door. Whether it’s a friend who’s having a hard time or a health professional, childcare worker or anyone working on the frontline during the Coronavirus pandemic, Gelatissimo wants to send them out a tub of the new Choc Cross Bun gelato to sweeten their day. Find out more about Gelatissimo's great initiative here.
See Family And Friends - Virtually
Thanks to video apps like FaceTime, HouseParty, Zoom, Google Hangouts and Messenger Video you can still share Easter lunch or dinner with your nearest and dearest. Spread out your feast and share the love online.
Watch A Bunny Flick
Snuggle up in your bunny onesie and put on an Easter-ish movie! Hop, Peter Rabbit and Rise of the Guardians are all eggcellent ways to cozy up and celebrate.
Now there's no eggscuse not to have a very hoppy Easter! And yes, we have so many hot cross puns, it's not even bunny...
