Family Finances: If someone else is managing your money, ask yourself these three questions.

Judy grew up on a farm and worked hard to help her parents run their business. Her Father took care of all things financial and money was never discussed so Judy never understood how it worked.

Judy also believed she wasn’t good at maths so assumed she wouldn’t be any good managing money herself.

When Judy got married, she entrusted her husband to manage their financial affairs, just like her Dad did when she was a growing up.

Unfortunately, Judy’s husband wasn’t as wise with money as her father. They constantly struggled financially and Judy had to rely on her parents to help her out.

Judy and her husband eventually divorced, and when her parents passed away they left her an inheritance.

Judy knew she needed the right adviser to give her the confidence she needed to make smart decisions with her money and to put her in control of her own life.

If someone else is managing your money, ask yourself these 3 questions:

1.       Why can’t I do it myself?

2.       Can they explain in simple language how they are going to do it?

3.       Would they do it with their own money?

If not, getting professional advice is the best way to go.
