International Women’s Day 2021: The Power of Community and Communication

March 8th, was International Women’s Day www.internationalwomensday.com I’ve thought a lot about how this aligns with both my business and personal values. As a financial adviser, woman, mother, daughter, partner and friend, my mission is to empower single women to feel financially secure and in control of their financial future. I believe this is a journey all women should take, one that involves learning, growth and awareness in all aspects of their lives.

#Choosetochallenge

#Choosetochallenge www.internationalwomensday.com/Theme is the theme for IWD 2021. Women face many challenges in life; sometimes we make a choice that hurts us, sometimes we’re simply dealt a bad hand by events out of our control. Regardless, we all come from different starting points and have numerous problems and worries to overcome. I am challenged to help single women navigate their financial pathway to find a place of safety, control and knowledge. A place where they are free to make the right decisions to build a secure future and live their best lives.

Community and support are paramount

Support may come in the form of family and friends, professionals to teach you, or sometimes even a stranger may offer guidance when you least expect it.

One of my clients recently experienced an amazing transformation in her life through the kindness of a complete stranger. She is a single mum of four; two of her children have a genetic condition that causes intellectual disabilities. Financially, she has faced many struggles, particularly in regards to being able to afford housing. At one time, her family of seven was living in a one-bedroom cabin in a caravan park. Added to this, as a Wiradjuri woman, she has struggled to find culturally appropriate services for her family’s specific needs. With limited support, her focus has simply been on day-to-day survival.

A media feature about the Disability Royal Commission touched on her story. As a result, a kind and generous soul chose to offer his help. He gifted her a home and helped her gain control of her financial situation. His support has been invaluable in easing some of the burdens she carries. She now feels safer, more in control and, through the kindness of a stranger, no longer has to worry about where her family will live. She has been empowered by his generosity.

Communication is the first step to creating a life of wealth

While not everyone can afford to gift another a house, this is a perfect example of the power of community and the importance of communication. Sharing my client’s story led to a completely unexpected result. Recognising and talking about our financial worries is the first step to solving our problems.

Many women struggle to speak up. But speaking our truths, sharing our experiences, and talking about our difficulties and successes, only serves to help ourselves and others. Open and honest discussion leads to learning and growth which, in turn, invites abundance and prosperity into our lives.

Today, on International Women’s Day, consider how you can support other women in your community. If we choose to, we are amazing at lifting other women up. Simply be aware of the opportunity to listen, talk to, understand or guide another woman. We can all help each other to learn, regardless of our insecurities and fears.

Be bold! Be brave! Don’t be afraid to ask for help, or offer assistance – we’re all in this together. Forge forward and embrace the future you dream of.
