Scammers trying to extort money by claiming people have a tax office debt are becoming more brazen, with two turning up at a man’s house in Adelaide.
Police say the Salisbury Downs man took an automated call on Monday claiming he had a tax debt and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
He suspected a scam and terminated the call but half an hour later two men with blue jackets claiming to be federal police arrived at his house.
When the man challenged them to provide identification they ran off.
“Don’t provide personal details, including financial details, to anyone without first verifying their identity,” police said.
